A Giclee Print of my original hand pulled screen print depicting the iconic Crown Bar, Belfast’s most famous pub. Sketched as part of our Northern Irish Building Series.
Growing up in Belfast I have always known The Crown Bar but it’s only been in the last year or two that I have truly appreciated its exquisite beauty. Its only when you ‘really’ look at the buildings around you that you see their story, and it can be quite fascinating. I now walk around my city always looking up!
I love the fact that the Victorians named this bar a ‘gin palace’. It makes it sound so glamorous. I get a strong visual image of men in top hats celebrating their arrival to the big city with a strong stiff drink in this elaborate setting!
As you can imagine ‘The Crown Bar’ is a major tourist attraction which is now owned by the National Trust. If you ever visit Belfast you can transport yourself back to Victoriana and soak up the atmosphere of a unique visual gem.
This image is also available as an A5 postcard and Linen Tea Towel.
